Heat Treating Information


1018 Cold Finished:
Carburize at 1650°F-1700°F for 8 hours
Box Cool
Reheat at 1400°F-1450°F
Water quench and draw at 300°F-350°F

4140/42 Alloy:
Normalize at 1600°F-1700°F, air cool. Average Brinell Hardness 285.
Anneal at 1450°F-1550°F, slowly cool in furnace. Average Brinell Hardness 187.
Hardening at 1525°F-1625°F, oil quench. Temper between 400°F-1300°F to desired hardness.

8620 Alloy:
Normalize at 1650°F-1750°F, air cool. Average Brinell Hardness 187.
Anneal at 1550°F-1600°F, slowly cool in furnace. Average Brinell Hardness 156.
Carburize at 1650°F-1700°F for 8 hours, oil quench. Temper between 300°F-450°F.

T410 Stainless:
Anneal at 1550°F-1650°F, slowly cool in furnace.
Hardening at 1750°F-1850°F, oil quench. Temper to desired hardness.

T440-C Stainless:
Anneal at 1550°F-1650°F, slowly cool in furnace.
Hardening at 1850°F-1950°F, oil quench. Temper to desired hardness.
